Supporting the recovery and family bonding of Wounded Warriors, Warrior Spouses or Caregivers and their Children through the recreational therapy of snow sports and other outdoor recreational activities.

FOREVER FIGHTING FOR FREEDOM

The organization is made up of service veterans and non-veterans alike, all caring people whose common bond is the love of alpine winter sports. And with ONE mission - sharing this 'love' with wounded and disabled service veterans.

GIVING BACK IS OUR CORE MISSION

We promote family and togetherness along with a sense of accomplishment. The Warrior leaves with a new skill-set that he/she can take with them the rest of their lives.

IS THIS ADVENTURE FUN OR WHAT?

WILL YOU HELP US HELP THEM?

We need your support so we can fulfill our mission... whatever you can give, your time, your money, your caring and love!

Help us fulfill our mission to support the recovery and family bonding of Wounded Warriors, Warrior spouses and caregivers and their children through the recreational therapy of snow sports by applying for our program!

When and where is the MAIN Event?

Since it began in 2011, our Main Event has been held at Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania. Other fund-raising and awarness events may be held throughout the year. Upcoming Events are listed on this websites Homepage.

What will it cost me?

Absolutely nothing.  If you are selected as a participant for our program, you and your family will be treated to an all-expense paid ski/snowboard vacation. We do this to provide opportunities for Wounded Warriors and Veterans to bond with their own families; connect with other similarly wounded Veterans and their families; and to honor the men and women who have sacrificed for their country. The vacation includes transportation to/from the event, meals, lodging, lift tickets, equipment rental, ski instruction and even ski/snowboard clothing and accessories. Recipients will also receive vouchers to enjoy other indoor and outdoor activities during the annual ski/snowboard event.

Do I have to know how to ski/snowboard?

No prior experience skiing or snowboarding is necessary. Instructors will be matched to you and your family based on your skill level. For those unable to use skis or snowboards in a conventional manner, specialized instruction and adaptive ski equipment are provided. Ski instructors and ski buddies work with individuals, families and groups to ensure everyone has as much time on snow during the week as possible.

Do I have to own skis/snowboard equipment?

No. If you and your family do not already have your own equipment, we will secure rental equipment for you.

Can you cope with my disability?

Most definitely. We have specialized instruction and adaptive equipment for nearly every type of physical ability.

Who can apply?

Any male or female member of any branch of the armed services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and National Guard) who is currently on active duty while receiving care for combat-related injuries or who has received a medical discharge including amputees, burns, TBI, PTSD or any service-related disability. You will be asked to show your military ID or a copy of your DD214.

Who can I bring to the Main Event?

You may bring your spouse, significant other, caregiver and/or any children over the age of five (5). Child care services and children’s activities are available for children over the age of five, should you choose to take advantage of them.

How do I get there?

Most applicants selected are within driving distance to the main event. Occasionally exceptions have been made. When you drive your own vehicle, we will reimburse you for mileage. If you are unable to drive, we will arrange round-trip transportation for you.

OUR MISSION: TO SUPPORT THE RECOVERY AND FAMILY BONDING OF WOUNDED WARRIORS, WARRIOR SPOUSES, OR CAREGIVERS AND THEIR CHILDREN THROUGH THE RECREATIONAL THERAPY OF SNOW SPORTS AND OTHER OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES.

THIS EVENT IS HELD AT SEVEN SPRINGS MOUNTAIN RESORT
7springsLogo

Our organization is comprised of dedicated, hard-working men and women, many who themselves are veterans, who give freely of their time and pay their own expenses.

Thank you to the Seven Springs Mountain Resort and our many sponsors and contributors for their generosity, making this event possible each year.

Every year, at Seven Springs Mountain Resort, we host Wounded Warrior families for a three-day adventure of their lives. For five days, these Warriors and families enjoy first-class lodging, gourmet dining, skiing and snowboarding and many other activities. We have hosted families from as far away as Texas and as close as Carlisle, PA.

Seven Springs Mountain Resort provides the Wounded Warrior families with lodging, breakfast, lift tickets, equipment rentals, lessons, as well as welcoming gift baskets. The WWP covers travel expenses, evening meals and other expenses incurred by the Warrior families. Each Warrior and family member receive an official event t-shirt.

The WWP provides excellent on-slope support for our Warrior families. Comprised of National Ski Patrol, Skier Safety and other expert skiers and snowboarders, they have only one mission on the slope - maximize the families snow experience - safely!

Event evenings are always punctuated with a gourmet buffet dinner, guest speakers, mascots for the kids, recapping the ski day, laughter, fun.... camaraderie!

WHAT OTHERS THINK ABOUT OUR EVENT...

Thanks for allowing me to be part of a fabulous event that really means a lot to so many. I've told others to count me in for next year. I'm marking the calendar now. Everyone on the Wounded Warriors patrol is a true patroller meaning they know what it is to serve and provide a service.

Again thanks for a fantastic event and I'm looking forward to next year. I certainly plan to talk this up at the national level.

Thank you,

Burt

 Hi All,

Stacy & I wish to sincerely thank you for all of your hospitality and including us to participate in this heartwarming event. It was so well orgainized by a great group of people! We'd love to offer more help in any way we can.

My friend and co-worker Stacy and I would be very happy to co-ordinate activities for the kids. We'd love that. I also loved the "bunk" lifestyle. It is a fun group and a great time. Please do keep us in mind for next year.

Donna

Mission Statement
To support the recovery and family bonding of Wounded Warriors, Warrior spouses, caregivers and their children through the recreational therapy of snow sports and other outdoor recreational activities.

Wounded Warrior Patrol is NOT associated in any manner or form with the Wounded Warrior Project and does not share funding, cooperation or advertising with them.

The Wounded Warrior Patrol was formed based on the initial ties between the military and the National Ski Patrol. With Minnie Dole, founder of the National Ski Patrol, making the presentation to the United States War Department recommending the organization of a mountain warfare unit, which in turn led to the predecessor of the elite 10th Mountain Division, the National Ski Patrol and United States Military became permanently entwined. It is the efforts of those returning veterans that helped build the ski industry in the United States to what it is today.

In homage to those veterans of the Greatest Generation, the Wounded Warrior Patrol was formed in the spring of 2011 based on the need to pay it forward to our Wounded Warriors of this generation.

Based in the Carlisle, Pennsylvania area, the organization is run entirely by non-paid volunteers. The Wounded Warrior Patrol Board is comprised of ski patrollers, their family members and friends many of whom are veterans. Currently, there are more than 20 active member volunteers who give countless hours each year to the planning and execution of our core mission.

Beginning in 2012, the Wounded Warrior Patrol has offered an annual all-expenses paid ski vacation to selected Wounded Warriors, Veterans and their families. These participants and their families can enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and other indoor and outdoor activities during the annual ski/snowboard event. No prior experience skiing or snowboarding is necessary. For those unable to use skis or snowboards in a conventional manner, specialized instruction and adaptive ski equipment are provided. Ski instructors and ski buddies work with individuals, families and groups to ensure everyone has as much time on snow during the week as possible.

This event is funded through our annual golf tournament, t-shirt and novelty sales, car washes and in-kind donations. In addition, the Wounded Warrior Patrol holds awareness events and participates in other community activities to bring attention to our cause.

Jim K., a 2012 Family Ski Week Participant said, “Thank you so much for this opportunity to help me reconnect with my children.  This is a gift I could never repay.”

The Wounded Warrior Patrol is a nonprofit corporation organized under the IRS tax code 501(c)3.

The organization is designated as a Veterans Support Group and is entitled to tax-exempt status under this registration.

While many members are veterans and ski patrollers, membership is open to anyone with a desire to help these Wounded Warriors.

Ability to ski is NOT a requirement for membership.
